This is Christy Nixon’s 5th year working at CMP Carmichael. She found her passion for teaching when her son was in preschool and she was a parent volunteer at his school. This is when she made the choice to go back to school to start her education towards being a teacher. She fell in love with the Montessori way of teaching when her now 5th grade son started kindergarten here at CMP Carmichael. She would volunteer in his classroom 2-3 times a week because she loved the environment and the way the children used materials to learn.
Christy started out working as a TA in an upper elementary classroom her first year, and then decided she wanted to see what it was like to work with younger children. In 2013, she made the move to lower elementary, where she decided she was meant to be and she has been ever since. She really enjoys working with younger students because she loves how eager they are about learning new things and that they love being here at school as much as she does.
Christy obtained her Montessori training and credential while she was still working as a TA through the American Montessori Society (AMS). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education Studies from Ashford University and her teaching credential was earned through CalState Teach. Over the next two years she will be working on her BTSA program and is looking forward to its completion in 2018.
In her spare time Christy enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys outdoor activities like bike riding, kayaking, paddle-boarding, hiking, and camping. Her favorite place to be is the beach – she especially likes the Monterey and Santa Cruz areas, and she visits the ocean whenever she gets the chance. While at home she likes to read, swim, and garden.
